Here is a basic outline of how the game goes. The “shooter” or player who is rolling the dice rolls the dice. This is known as the Come Out Roll. The dealer indicates this on the table by placing a black marker. This lets the players know that this is the first roll in a new series of rolls. If an 11 or 7 is rolled, the Pass bet wins. If a 12, 3, or 2, is rolled, the Pass bet loses. If any other number is rolled that becomes the “point”. The dealer will place a white marker on the number that is rolled. The player who is rolling the dice or the shooter will continue to roll the dice until he or she rolls the same number or gets “craps”. Seven is known as craps.

The basic craps bet is the “Pass” bet. Everyone who plays the game should have an understanding of this bet. The player places his chips on the Pass Line on the Come Out roll. If an 11 or 7 is rolled, the bet is won. If a 12, 3, or 2 come up, the bet is lost. Once point is established. As long as the shooter continues to roll a seven or the point the Pass Bet will win. Don’t make a Pass bet after the Come Out roll. Although it is allowed is disadvantageous to the player because the value of the bet is lower. Once a player makes a Pass Bet and the point has been established then he or she can make another type of bet known as the “Odds” bet.

this-casino-2014The Odds bet is a side bet. This is betting that the shooter will role the point before he rolls “craps”. If the point is rolled the player wins, he or she loses if craps is rolled. This bet will always pay six times the amount of the Pass Bet.
The “Don’t Pass” bet is the contrast of the Pass bet. This is a bet for a roll of a 3 or 2 and against a roll of 11 or 7 on the Come Out roll. Once the point has been established the player wins if a 7 is rolled. The player loses if the point is rolled before a 7 is rolled. The side bet that comes along with this bet is called “Laying the Odds”. This means that the player is betting that a 7 will be rolled before the point.

this-casino-2014The Come bet is the same as the Pass bet except that it can be made at any time other than a Come Out Roll. Once a Come Bet is made, the next roll essentially acts as a Come Out Roll and all rules apply. Odds bets may be made after a Come bet. The Don’t Come Bet is the essentially like a Don’t Pass bet except that it can be made anytime but on a Come Out Roll. Again, the player may place an Odds side bet or laying the odds. These two types of bets allow players to make similar bets to Pass and Don’t Pass bets but do not have to wait for a Come Out Roll.

this-casino-2014Place bets allow players to bet on individual numbers. This are notated on the table as 9,8,6,5,4, and 10. These are like odds bets but a player does not have to make a Pass line bet and the do not pay as much. . If any of these numbers are rolled before a seven is rolled the player wins. The opposite bets to Place bets are called Place to Lose. These bets win on a seven and lose if the number the number bet on is rolled. Place to Lose bets are not usually found in United States or European craps games. They mainly featured in Australian craps games.

Other types of bets are Big 6 and 8 bets and Hard Ways. The player is betting a 6 or and 8 to be rolled before a seven in the Big 6 and 8 bet. Hard Ways are bets on how certain numbers will be rolled. For example, rolling an eight in the hard way is rolling it with a combination of four and four. The easy way roll would be a 6 and a two combination. There are four hard way bets and as one would guess these are only even numbers, the 4, 6, 8, and 10.
